It’s been said again and again by various money gurus that if you want to become financially successful then you need something to sell. You see, most people think that they have nothing to offer for sale and so they resort to selling their ‘time’ by working for someone else 9-5.

But clearly this is not the only way. There are so many people out there successfully creating and selling their own products and services. Who says you can’t be one of them?

But I really don’t have anything to sell! What we are describing here is called affiliate marketing. You are marketing someone else’s product for them and through an agreement that you have with them, you become essentially an affiliate of theirs. There are many benefits to being an affiliate marketer (many of which really only start to shine when you start).

Keep in mind: the internet is on 24-hours a day, so just because you need to sleep doesn’t mean your business has to stop making you money.

Just to give you an idea of how big of a market we are talking about here: in 2014 alone, Amazon sold more than 5 billion items and 40% of that was sold by 3rd-party seller (i.e. affiliates). There is absolutely no reason why you can’t be taking home part of that pie. And perhaps the greatest thing about affiliate marketing is that you don’t have to stock, ship, or touch a single product in order to make a sale.

Think about it – if you can help someone make a decision by finding the right service, or picking out the right product, you are adding value. Affiliate marketing is simply the process of demonstrating the benefits of the offer you are promoting to your target market.

I remember when I first started out, I got lost in the sea of scattered information on affiliate marketing. Sure there are a lot of sites out there. But it’s hard to know which direction to take and which ones lead to a dead-end.

Once you’ve managed to settle on a solution for your website, you will actually need to populate it with useful content. How do I make sure my content is great enough that people will find it useful? What if I am a terrible writer or not well-versed in the niche I have selected? Is there a way I can have someone write useful content for me?

It sucks but it’s true! You can have the best site, the best content, and promoting the best products out there but if people can’t find you when they search, then what’s the point?

But how do I ensure that all my hard work gets found by the search engines and ranked high up on their lists? Your success (or failure) will depend on the amount of traffic your website receives. And not just any traffic. You need targeted traffic. In other words, you need people who are searching for exactly what you are offering.

Targeted traffic is very valuable because it is the prerequisite to making money. Therefore, you can either buy targeted traffic (i.e. advertise on search engines) or, more preferably, you want to organically rank (or show up) at the top of the search results for free.
